Eli Garza
Assistant Band Director/ Percussion DirectorMr. Garza is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a percussion focus. Before coming to Alvin High School he was the Percussion Director at Westside High School where he also helped design their marching band shows. They achieved multiple sweepstakes awards and advanced to Area in his two fall's there. He started his teaching career as the assistant percussion director for Clear Creek High School in League City, Texas. Mr. Garza's other instructional experiences include being a part of the percussion staff at Clear Brook High School from 2015-2022 where he had the opportunity to be a part of many award-winning groups such as becoming a WGI Gold medalist, multiple silver medalist and multiple-time State Champions. During his time at SFA, he performed in multiple ensembles including percussion ensemble, jazz band, the Lumberjack Marching Band, and steel-drum band. As a member of the Lumberjack Marching Band, he had the opportunity to march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City in 2016. In addition to performing with SFA ensembles he was also a member of an independent percussion group based out of Tyler Junior College in 2015.
In his free time you can find Mr. Garza spending time with his wife Stacie and their dog Jackson, watching sports, or on a golf course. He is extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with so many talented students at Alvin HS and hopes he can be a small part of the many successes to come. |
